Cornerstone -Progress so Far

These are exciting times for us.  We feel that we are being blessed by God in so many ways.  We have noticed this particularly in the way new people are coming in to church all the time and our numbers have been growing.

Starting with a church built in 1932 and halls built in 1957 and 1973  h here's what's been happening since we launched Cornerstone five years ago.

•  So far we have raised about £730,000. The majority of this has been given by church members at 3 Gift Days but there have been many other donors too and a variety of fundraising events.  We have spent around £156,000 on professional fees and the early works detailed below, so have around £576,000 left in our fund, banked or pledged towards the remaining £1.55m that we need.
• We have prepared a comprehensive Brief of what we wish to achieve.
• We appointed an Architect and now have our Phase 1 designs and planning consent
• We have a Quantity Surveyor giving us professional advice and support on costs..
• We have bought a strip of land alongside the church and have created additional parking, and have agreement fo rus to buy a strip of land in the vicarage garden to use for a pre-school play area.
• We have got on with installing a new power supply.
• We have steadily built up a portfolio of services and users in our halls.
• Over the past few years we have been meeting community needs.  We have had:

  •  Various clubs for children and teens
  • GPs practice pulmonary clinic
  •  A community cafe twice a week
  • Age Concern Nail clipping service
  •  A weekly group for older ladies
  • Social Group for single people
  •  Daily Pre school
  • Support Groups for Parkinsons Disease
  •  Toddler Group
  • Counselling
  •  Exercise Group
  • Local councillor Surgery
  •  Weight Watching Group

Recently we have had enquiries from various groups, including the PCT, and we know of many needs where groups are seeking friendly and flexible facilities for their community activites.  For now we can barely take any more regular bookings.

So now- in faith - we have set about raising the other £900,000 to get on with Phase 1.  We are praying that many, many people may want to play a part in making this happen by making a donation, however small. In addition we are praying for a miracle of giving.
